Video Projection Mapping::
The Gowanus Ballroom is an alternative gallery space in an industrial neighborhood next to the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn. A specialty metal fabrication shop by day, the space converts into a massive arts wonderland for quarterly themed shows. Featuring cutting edge visual art and performances by fire-breathers, aerialists, and body artists, events at the space are immersive, challenging, and highly entertaining.
Integrated Visions Productions was invited to participate in The Longest Night, a group exhibition that paid homage to the winter solstice. Drawing inspiration from the longest night of the year, the show explored the themes of darkness and light in a variety of media.
The initial plan was to install Portal, our gallery-ready sacred geometrical videomapped sculpture. However, the piece would have been swallowed by the space, so based on our Art Intervention with some of Sol Lewitt's sculptures in City Hall Park this summer, we opted to interact with Fleet City by The Objectionists, a large mobile-style sculpture already inhabiting the cathedral-like space.
We precisely mapped custom visuals to a template built out of this whimsical piece's larger elements. We were also able to incorporate an associated painting on the adjacent wall to create a dream-like tableau across one wall of the gallery.
Thanks to the Gowanus Ballroom and Serett Design (serett.com) for the opportunity, and to Digital Projection (digitalprojection.com) for building the perfect projector for the occasion.
